IknowEverything asked:

Will it be safe to eat the stuff we are going to grow? It seems weird to me. We are doing a veggie/fruit garden over my mom’s house and she wants to put organic fertilizer (POOP!) in the dirt. What is the proper way to do this? This is the first time I’ve grown anything so any tips would be helpful! Thanks!

That fox comes at night and has his favourite spot at the end of the garden, where he destroys the grass. Is there anything I can spray or something. The fence does not seem to keep him away.

One of our neighbors has a black walnut tree in his yard. the nuts fall into our garden… the roots are likely traveling under it too. It seems that no matter how much I adjust the soil with compost and rotted manure nothing much wants to grow there. It is unfortunate as that is the best place in our yard for a garden. I think I may have to lay down a plastic sheet, build up a raised bed on top of it, and put a net overhead to block the falling nuts and roots of that black walnut tree. Any other suggestions?

tardis_mom asked:

I plan to build a raised garden bed in my back yard to grow vegetables (tomatoes, squash, etc.). I am planning to raise the bed only about 5.5 from the ground. Is that enough to make a difference or does the bed have to be higher? It seems like there are lots of variations on bed height from about 5.5 to about 30. I don’t know if this makes a difference, but I am in Zone 7. Thanks for the help.

I have enjoyed this site now for a few weeks. The catigories were in the past pretty specific. Over the last couple of days I have noticed JUNK, stuff that doesn’t belong in a specific catigory implanted in the site, some of it is not what I want to read or hear about, Can any one tell me if they know how to critic this site and let YAHOO know of the current trend to generalization of all the sub sites?

I’m helping to put together a small memorial garden at my work. We’ve already got a bench and a birdbath, and are going to put in a couple small planters, but don’t know what kind of plants to put in. They should be low maintenance, and should stay green during the Scottish winter. Flowers in the summer would be nice too. The area gets lots of sunshine…when the sun is out. Any suggestions?

I have a large space - 26′ - along the front of my house. I think I’m going to make the bed about 3 or 4′ in width. What’s the best way to lay out my garden? Should it be symmetrical or just bunched and more free (like a cottage garden)? I’m thinking of using Delphinium, Echinacea, Daylilies, Oriental Lilies, small shrub roses (2′x3′) and then some small ornamental grasses and 2-4 border flowers in the front. I think I’m also going to put a weeping redbud on the left side. Do you have any ideas for how I should do this… I’m at a loss!!!
