How can I get leeches out of my water garden without removing the water, plants, snails fish?
Monday, December 29th, 2008How can I get rid of bindweed in my garden?
Sunday, December 28th, 2008L S asked:
For the last few years I have been plagued by bindweed in my perennial garden. I’ve tried bindweed mites from an extension service, pulling the vines, and someone suggested cutting them with scissors. Nothing seems to work. I’m trying not to use chemical weed killers in my yard but am getting desperate!

Ive just recently moved into a very old house, the thing is, I have this huge Rain Water Tank in my backyard which is great but unfortunately the roof and spouting is all aspestos so the water cannot be consumed. I want to know whether it is safe to use on my garden and pot plants.I have all this water just sitting there and would love to put it to use the way nature intended. PLEASE HELP.

How can i create a Low cost, low maintenance garden, that looks nice?
Friday, December 19th, 2008kayrich2000 asked:
At the minute i have a little porch out the front and french doors leading out to the garden, which is fenced with a lowish fence, the gate is next to the little porch. Outside the porch and french doors there are small white stones but weeds have grown through them, the rest of the garden is dull looking grass!
This is my new house and i want to change it from the previous owners. I also dislike the white stones.
All ideas welcome

What is the best pland for my garden?

I have a lot of little plants that look okay, but I need some fast growing, darker plants for the back of my garden to give the flowers in front a foil to make them stand out better.

I like tropical plants but don’t know anything about them. My biggest issue is that one side of the garden is full sun all day every day and every season. The other side is always shaded.
Any suggestions?

How do I clear out my garden and start from scratch?
Wednesday, December 17th, 2008Lunar Sarah asked:
I live on the hill and have a long driveway. At the top, I have a retaining wall that’s about 3 and a half feet high. Past the wall, the garden is at about a 45 degree angle for about six feet (~20 feet across), then the ground levels out into my yard/grass. The garden is completely overgrown with weeds, poison ivy, etc. Normally I would just take the lawn mower to it and mow everything down, but due to the angle, I won’t be able to easily get at it with a lawn mower.
I can’t seem to figure out what the best way to attack it is. I don’t want to just dive in and start pulling because I’ll be up to my elbows in poison ivy, spiders and possible snakes.

Suggestions beyond hiring someone to do it. Thanks.

Is it safe to use creeping rosemary from my garden in the kitchen in place of tuscan?
Tuesday, December 16th, 2008The Eternal Squire asked:
I have two varieties of rosemary in my garden, both of which I bought from Home Depot in the spring. I grow some tuscan (officianlis) rosemary but as it grows slowly I am running out of it. I also grow creeping rosemary which is a lot more prolific. When I picked some, it smelled like pine leaves and I am afraid to use it. Is creeping rosemary a true subspecies of rosemary and is it safe to use in the kitchen?
